Upcoming performances from the New River Ensemble

Among our many talented staff musicians are long-time FMCers Brendan Cooney, Martha Hyde, and Lisa Liske-Doorandish. For a few years now, they have been working together both inside and outside of camp as the New River Ensemble, playing small concerts here and there and doing some recruiting for FMC. This summer, they are previewing their first full-length concert both in Barnesville and in Yellow Springs. The information follows. If you can make it, I highly recommend attending!

Music by Debussy, Stravinsky, Brahms, Baker, Bach, Ginastera, Beethoven, Cooney, d’Indy,  Hyde

Juxtaposing old and new, traversing many continents, centuries and genres the New River Ensemble presents an engaging program of original and traditional music. This special July concert begins with the world premiere of the trio’s own ambitious deconstruction and rearrangement of Debussy’s famous piano collection “Children’s Corner” and ends with an epic work by the obscure French composer Vincent d’Indy. In between you will hear Beethoven juxtaposed with contemporary jazz composer David Baker, Brahms juxtaposed with the adventurous Ginastera, Stravinsky, Bach and original pieces by Hyde and Cooney.
